Khadi

Khadi is handspun, handwoven fabric. In India, both warp and weft are singles. I use plied yarns for my warp; I prefer 20/2 or finer for use with my handspun singles. I sett the 20/2 at 24 to 32 epi dependent on what weave structure I am using. At 24 epi, plain weave is soft, twill is stretchy, 3/1 vs 1/3 twill is groovy. How much twist, you ask. My DVD provides information and a handy angle gauge to help you determine and then test for consistency. Or you could ask me about a class.

I spin my cotton on a charkha, and place the full spindle into a specially designed shuttle, and off I go to the loom.

Sometimes I mix handspun with millspun yarns in the weft, or use the handspun to achieve specific results, like shaping cloth.

Sometimes I just weave with millspun yarns.
