I wove the background placemat with cotton pencil roving alternating with the Loden. You can use a doubled thread instead of the pencil roving.
On the same warp, I wove the napkin shown on the top with handspun singles

This version uses the natural green cotton in the warp and weft.
The piece on the upper left is woven with natural cotton/hemp and is shown for color comparison.
The piece in the middle was finished in hot soapy water; the fabric on the loom is also shown for color comparison.
